LOGAN -- It's been a good week for the Aggies.
Utah State bounced back from a pair of losses to overwhelm Idaho State on Tuesday at the Smith Spectrum.
The Aggies also found out their recruiting class is ranked the best in the WAC, hopefully ensuring a bright future.
Now the Aggies (2-2) will continue its season-long five-game homestand against Southern Utah at 7 p.m. tonight at the Smith Spectrum.
USU is led by junior forward Tai Wesley, who is averaging 13.3 points and 5.7 rebounds, while shooting 55.0 percent from the field and 69.2 percent at the free-throw line. Senior guard Jared Quayle is averaging 12.8 points, 9.3 rebounds and 4.0 assists per game, while shooting 41.0 percent from the field, 50.0 percent from 3-point range and 91.7 percent at the free throw line, and junior forward Nate Bendall is averaging 11.8 points and 7.0 rebounds, while shooting 69.2 percent from the field and 91.7 percent from the free throw line.
As a team, Utah State is averaging 67.8 points and is shooting 44.6 percent from the field, 36.9 percent from 3-point range. Defensively, USU is allowing 59.0 points per game and its opponents are shooting 37.8 percent from the field.
Southern Utah is 3-3 on the season following a 72-65 home loss to Tennessee Tech Wednesday night. The Thunderbirds, who are 0-1 on the road and 1-2 away from home this year, are led by senior guard Davis Baker who is averaging 15.7 points and 4.5 rebounds per game, while sophomore guard Jake Nielson is averaging 11.2 points per game.
Roger Reid is 25-42 in three seasons at Southern Utah and 177-118 in 11 seasons as a collegiate head coach.
Utah State's fall recruiting class has been tabbed as the best in the Western Athletic Conference according to ESPN.com. The results are based solely on high school players. Utah State announced three players during the early signing period including a pair of prep stars in Ben Clifford and James Walker. USU also signed one junior college player in Brockeith Pane.
