Morgan cruises past Grantsville

MORGAN -- When Morgan's two starting big men each picked up three fouls in the first quarter Friday night, Matt Largent and Jared Brooks stepped up big time to lead the Trojans to a 66-45 win over Region 11 rival Grantsville.

Largent, a senior forward, came off the bench to score 13 of his game-high 15 points in the second period, while Brooks added five points in the quarter and seven overall.

The two were also a stabilizing force on defense and seemed to have a calming effect on the team after an early scuffle between Grantsville's Damon Deavila and Morgan's Dallin Schenk that resulted in a technical foul issued to each team.

"I just wanted to keep cool and not let the game get out of control," Largent said. "I tried to step up and fill some spots. I'm just kind of a role player, but things were falling tonight."

The rough play created an intense atmosphere that could have escalated into something worse, but the Trojans managed to exercise restraint.

"We didn't let things get into our heads," Largent said. "We just played our game and didn't worry about what happened earlier. We just concentrate on what's going on right now and not let our anger get a hold of us."

"(Largent) had a great first half," Morgan coach Jim Wiscombe said. "He was huge. He got some steals and made some shots and (Brooks) has great hands on defense and did a good job that way."
