Wolf Pack takes aim at Aggies

LOGAN -- Utah State will put its seven-game home winning streak on the line tonight, hosting rival Nevada in Western Athletic Conference action at the Smith Spectrum.

Game time is 8 p.m.

Stew Morrill's Aggies are 17-6 on the season, 7-2 in WAC play, following its 80-62 home win against Idaho Wednesday night. USU is led by junior forward Tai Wesley who is averaging 13.0 points, 6.7 rebounds, 2.7 assists and 1.4 blocks per game, while senior guard Jared Quayle is averaging 12.0 points, 5.6 rebounds and 4.3 assists per game. Junior forward Nate Bendall is averaging 10.7 points and 5.8 rebounds.

As a team, Utah State is averaging 73.6 points and is shooting 48.7 percent from the field, 41.9 percent from 3-point range and 76.9 percent from the free throw line.

Nevada is 13-8, 5-3 in the WAC. The Wolf Pack, who are 2-6 on the road this year, are led by sophomore forward Luke Babbitt who is averaging 21.4 points and 9.9 rebounds per game, while junior guard Armon Johnson is averaging 15.8 points and 5.5 assists per game.

* NO. 12 COUGARS TO TAKE ON UNLV: BYU will look to maintain its hold on first- lace in the MWC when it takes on second-place UNLV at 2 p.m. in Las Vegas. The Cougars are 22-2, 7-1 in MWC play.

UNLV is 18-4 overall and 6-2 in the Mountain West Conference. The Rebels (9-2 at home this season) have won four-straight. Tre'Von Willis leads the Rebels in scoring at 17.2 points per game.

* MONTANA STATE 63, IDAHO STATE 60: At Bozeman, Mont., Danny Piepoli scored 13 of his season-high 16 points in the second half, as Montana State (12-10, 7-4 Big Sky) held off Idaho State.

The Bengals (6-16, 3-7) got 24 points from Broderick Gilchrest.

* PORTLAND STATE 76, SACRAMENTO STATE 62: At Sacramento, Calif., Julius Thomas had 16 points and six rebounds to help Portland State (10-12, 5-5 Big Sky) beat Sac State. Justin Eller led the Hornets (8-16, 2-9) with 18 points and five rebounds.
