Tigers come up a basket short at state

WOODS CROSS -- Wildcats center Austin Bankowski scored a game-high 18 points and pulled down 15 rebounds as Woods Cross fended off a late Ogden rally to advance in the state 4-A boys basketball tournament Saturday night.

"We're going to enjoy this one," Woods Cross coach Todd Street said. "We've been looking forward to each challenge and playing great teams and this was a good one."

Ogden led 11-9 after the first period, but a five-point run to start the second pulled Woods Cross even and a Steven Sperry 3-pointer at the buzzer gave the Wildcats a 22-19 lead going into the half.

Ogden -- minus scoring leader Jake Buck out with a torn meniscus -- struggled to score in the third.

Jake Lower and Nik Allred both scored 10 for Ogden and Darin Gomez put in eight.

Down 35-30, the Tigers played inspired ball the final two minutes.

Ogden tied the game with 30 seconds on the clock. Woods Cross answered when Evans hauled in a pass and scored giving the Wildcats a 39-37 advantage, and leaving seven seconds for Ogden.

Junior guard Kyler Campbell took the inbound pass and found Eric Porter streaking inside.

Under pressure and some contact, Porter's shot glanced off the rim and fell off.

Bankowski recorded rebound number 15, putting an exclamation point on his double-double.
