Mustangs edge Braves, on to semis / Mountain Crest efficient in OT win over Bountiful

OGDEN -- It took a little longer than expected, but the Mountain Crest Mustangs are on their way to the state 4-A semifinals.

After trailing by nine points late in the game, the Mustangs came roaring back to force an overtime, where their offense took over in the final four minutes, scoring 22 points, including a solid 17-of-22 effort from the free-throw line in the extra session, as they came away with a tough 64-53 win over Bountiful at the Dee Events Center Thursday night.

Leading the way for the Mustangs was Matt Stewart. The forward poured in a game-high 27 points while teammate Troy Pickett was equally impressive on the night, scoring 16 points and hauling in 13 rebounds.

Mountain Crest moves on to play Provo Friday night in the 4-A semifinals. Provo was able to bear Springville in the early game of the day, 59-53. The Bulldogs were led by Kyle Collinsworth's 27 points and 12 rebounds.

NOTE: The Mustangs moved to 18-4 on the season, and have won nine consecutive games and 18 of their last 19. Bountiful finishes its season 16-7, snapping a five game winning streak. McKay LaSalle led the Braves with 20 points.

* TIMPVIEW 56, SKY VIEW 43: At the Dee Events Center, the Bobcats came in on a high note after they took down one of the tournament favorites in Olympus Tuesday.

That euphoria didn't last long, as they went frigid from the field in falling to the Thunderbirds in the state 4-A quarterfinals.

Sky View shot just 34 percent and their defense, which was great early on, let them down in the third quarter as Timpview went on a solid run to put the game away.

Kyler Carlsen did his best to keep the Bobcats in the game as he scored a game-high 16 points.oever, the Thunderbirds had three players in double figures, led by Eli Roberson's 14 points.
