OGDEN -- There was no final night magic for the Wildcats' three seniors.
Severely short-handed due to injuries, the Weber State University women's basketball team simply didn't have enough in the tank to knock off the Big Sky Conference's hottest team.
Red-hot Sacramento State captured its 11th win in its past 13 games, picking up a 75-61 win over Weber State on Saturday night at the Dee Events Center.
With the win the Hornets, who started league play 0-4, finished league action at 10-6, garnering the Big Sky's No. 2 seed and a first-round bye in next week's league tournament in Cheney, Wash. Weber State finished its season 3-13 in league play and 9-20 overall, tying Northern Arizona for eighth in the final league standings.
"I couldn't be more proud of the way we went out and competed and played hard tonight," Weber State coach Carla Taylor said. "That's a very good Sacramento State team and our kids went out and battled and left it all on the court tonight."
Prior to tip-off of Saturday's game, Weber State's three senior guards, Tonya Schnibbe, Ali Thorderson and Sarah Conner were honored at midcourt, and then finished off their respective careers for the Purple and White.
Schnibbe finished with 15 points, five rebounds and five assists. Freshman forward Megan Patterson added 14 points and six rebounds for the Wildcats, who finished with a 47-44 rebounding advantage.
"I'm really proud of our seniors and the effort that they gave every day," Taylor said.
Trailing by 14 at halftime, Weber State roared to life in the second half, outscoring Sacramento State 17-7 to cut the deficit to four points. The Wildcats got as close as 53-50 on Caela Mohre's 3-pointer from the deep corner, but that's as close as the Wildcats would come. Sacramento State's hustle on the offensive glass and the resulting second-chance points carried them to the finish line despite a spirited attempt by the Wildcats to keep it close.
Sacramento State shot just 39.5 percent from the field in the first half, but splashed in seven 3-pointers and seven free throws to take a 44-30 advantage into the locker room.
The Wildcats were able to keep pace with the run-and-gun Hornets early, but Sacramento State made several key baskets late in the half to extend its lead to double digits.
