Larsen takes over at Weber

PLEASANT VIEW -- After five years as an assistant at Weber High, Mark Larsen will moving over a seat on the sidelines as the new head coach of Warriors basketball. Larsen succeeds Chad Sims, who compiled an overall record of 43-66 during that span.

"I'm really looking forward to this opportunity," Larsen said. "I learned a lot about coaching from Chad."

Larsen takes over a squad that includes the departure of all of its starters from last years squad, but he doesn't look at is as a real challenge. "We don't feel like we're starting over, and I don't want to say it's rebuilding. We will have some continuity with the kids we have returning."

Larsen, who spent three years as an assistant at Box Elder High before coming over to Weber, feels that the time he has spent in the program has prepared him for the moment. "I'm comfortable will all the issues that come with coaching like fund-raising and working with boosters. We really want to get the community interested in basketball and take it to the next level."

Larsen is no stranger to the community. After graduating from Box Elder in 1996, he went to Fresno, Calif. where he played one year at Fresno Community College before transferring to Ricks. After a redshirt season at Ricks he went to Utah State where he eventually received his degree.

Among the goals that Larsen has for the Warriors is to win a region championship, something Weber has not done in 12 seasons.

"It's been 12 years since we won a region title, and never at 5-A, so that is definitely one of our goals. We have the kids to do it, and they are committed to working hard and putting in the time necessary."
