North wins 5-A All-Star game in 12

OGDEN -- Viewmont High School's Jordan Hager was named the defensive most valuable player of Saturday's state 5-A All-Star baseball game at Lindquist Field on Saturday.

Hager threw three innings in the North's 6-5 12-inning victory over the South. Roy's Bubba Blau joined with Bingham's Ty Hansen and Northridge's Kolton Mahoney in keeping the South scoreless over the final eight innings.

Cameron Clark, of Clearfield, had two of the North's five hits and was named offensive MVP. Mason Moore of Weber High had a hit.

Skyline's Trey Nielsen hit a two-run triple and Jordan's Kelton Caldwell smacked an RBI single in the first inning for the South. Lone Peak's Jacob Hannemann added a two-run double in the fourth to make it 5-1.

The North got back in the game by scoring two runs off wild pitches in the fourth inning. It tied the game 5-all on a throwing error in the fifth. The score stayed that way until Layton's Brock Maestas drove in Pleasant Grove's Keaton Secretan for the game-winning run with a sacrifice fly in the 12th inning.

Nielsen was named the overall MVP.
