Wildcats' Oram tabbed preseason All-American

OGDEN -- The Sports Network has released its 2010 Division I FCS Pre-Season All-America teams, and included Weber State offensive lineman J.C. Oram on the squad.

Twelve players from the Big Sky Conference were selected to the three teams. Oram, a 6-foot-4, 310-pound junior from Slaterville, was selected to the second team offense.

It is the second time this season Oram has been named to a preseason All-America team. Last month he was named second team by Phil Steele's Football Preview Magazine.

Six players from the Big Sky were named to the first team, which included nearly the entire backfield. Northern Arizona's Michael Herrick was named at quarterback. Eastern Washington's Taiwan Jones and Montana's Chase Reynolds were named running backs.

On defense, Big Sky first teamer's included defensive end Christian Clark (Sacramento State), linebacker J.C. Sherritt (Eastern Washington) and cornerback Trumaine Johnson (Montana).

A pair of Southern Utah seniors were also named to the squad. Tysson Poots earned a spot on the first team at wide receiver, while Fesi Sitake earned third-team honors as a return specialist.

The Sports Network sponsors the NCAA Division I FCS Walter Payton, Buck Buchanan and Eddie Robinson awards.

* KRAGTHORPE REPLACED BY WALTERS ON TEXAS A&M STAFF: Former Louisville coach Steve Kragthorpe is resigning as receivers coach at Texas A&M to tend to family medical issues, and former NFL player Troy Walters is taking his place.

Kragthorpe was hired in February after the Cardinals fired him following a 4-8 record in his third season. He was the head coach at Tulsa from 2003-06.

Walters played for Minnesota, Indianapolis, Arizona and Detroit during an eight-year NFL career. He was the 1999 Biletnikoff Award winner at Stanford.

* FLORIDA STATE LINEBACKER CARR FACES FELONY CHARGES: Florida State linebacker Nigel Carr was freed on a $15,750 bond after being jailed on five separate criminal allegations, including two felony charges, authorities said Monday.

Carr was arrested by Tallahassee police Sunday on two counts of auto burglary, criminal mischief, credit card theft and fraud. A police report said items taken from a vehicle were found in a trash bin at Carr's apartment complex, leading to his arrest.

First-year coach Jimbo Fisher, who was in North Carolina attending his inaugural Atlantic Coast Conference football kickoff, said the 230-pound junior would be disciplined in accordance to the university's athletics code of conduct. He could miss the FSU-BYU game on Sept. 18.

* BYU'S NELSON AN ALLSTATE AFCA GOOD WORKS TEAM NOMINEE: The American Football Coaches Association nominated 112 student-athletes for the Allstate AFCA Good Works Team, including BYU junior quarterback Riley Nelson.

Nelson is one of 57 nominees from the Football Bowl Subdivision to be nominated. Among the service he has provided Nelson has been involved with the Buff Don't Puff program, BYU Sports Heroes Day, the Heart2Home Foundation and Senior Honors Day.
