GARLAND -- In a battle of two schools with similar mascots and storied spors histories, it was the Logan Grizzlies that flexed their muscle to beat the Bear River Bears 31-6 in theif football season opener Friday night.
The Grizzlies came out moving the ball from the start of the game, but weren't able to score until the end of the first quarter, D.J. Nelson threw a 23-yard touchdown pass, and then scored on a 1-yard run to extend the lead to 14-0.
Jake Thompson kicked a 50 yard field goal to put the Grizzlies up 17-0, and Logan would score once more before halftime to lead 24-0 at the intermission.
The Bears came out in the second half and start to move the ball very well, but had some costly turnovers to stop a few drives in the second half.
The Bears scored on a 5-yard run by Payton Wells to give the bears some momentum, but just were not able to add any other points on the scoreboard. The Bears defense played very well in the second half, holding the Grizzlies offense to 0 points in the second half.
