Prep football: Bees' offense shines against Grizzlies

BRIGHAM CITY -- The Box Elder Bees came into Friday nights game wanting to show they can play with anybody, and they did so with a huge win over the Copper Hills Grizzlies 47-22. The rain could not even slow the Bees down as they played well on all sides of the ball.

It was the special teams that set the tone for the entire game, as they blocked a punt that led to the offenses scoring tear. The Bees scored early and often in the first half as they built a 30-6 lead at the break. In the second half the Bees defense had some big plays to stop drives that could have kept the game much closer.

Justin Gunter had two touchdown passes to Justus Brown, Gunter also scored twice on runs, including a 94-yard run to end the first quarter. Sean Smith also scored two touchdowns on runs. It was an all around good game for the Bees who improved to 1-1 on the season and gives them momentum heading into the Bear River game next Friday.

* JORDAN 42, LAYTON 18: At Sandy, the Beetdiggers' offense imposed its will on the Lancers all night, as Jordan cruised to the non-region victory.

Jordan quarterback McCoy Hill tossed four touchdowns on 274 yards.

Layton play-caller Derek Thomas rushed for a 41-yard touchdown and hooked up with receiver J.T. Anderson for a 21-yard strike in the loss.

* BEAR RIVER 32, DIXIE 21: At Garland, the Flyers did their best to contain Payton Wells, but it was Bear River quarterback Tayton Rose who had his way in the Bears' victory.

Bear River jumped out to an early lead and never looked back, as Rose threw three touchdowns; two to Drake Walker and one to Jacob Rees.

Wells rushed for a touchdown and AJ Sanchez ran back a punt for a 79-yard score in the fourth quarter.

* MORGAN 21, SNOW CANYON 20: At St. George, the Trojans won in dramatic fashion, as tailback Connor Jensen rushed for a touchdown with just over a minute to play to help Morgan pick up the road victory.

Tad Sargent also picked up a rushing touchdown and quarterback Colby Skinner connected on a 20-yard score with Lawson Toomer for the Trojans.

* LOGAN 30, MOUNTAIN VIEW 24 (2OT): At Logan, Grizzlies quarterback DJ Nelson capped a monster day with with a 10-yard touchdown pass to John Schmidt in the second overtime period to drop the Bruins.

Nelson also hooked up with Kerby Olsen for a 6-yard strike in addition to his two rushing scores.

Logan kicker Jake Thompson also booted a 31-yard field goal in the victory.

* COTTONWOOD 45, SKY VIEW 17: At Smithfield, the Colts blew open the game with a 28-point third quarter to rough up the Bobcats.

Sky View's Gabe Anderson and Nicholas Carver each threw touchdown passes in the loss. Jordan Hill and Connor Christensen were on the receiving end of those passes.
