KAYSVILLE -- Although it's only week two, the Davis Darts are on a roll.
After Clearfield defeated Taylorsville 40-0 a week ago, Davis figured to provide a measuring stick for the Falcons. However, before the midway point of the third quarter, the Darts held a 42-0 lead en route to a 49-14 decision, giving Davis its second 35-point victory of the season.
"You're always looking for improvement from week one to week two, but in the end, with our turnovers and penalties, the kids found a way to fight through the adversity early," Davis coach Ryan Bishop said. "I thought the difference was that we were able to overcome some of the mistakes that we brought on ourselves and still be really aggressive, play well on 'D' and finish some drives."
The Darts took their opening drive from their own 28 to the Clearfield 4, before fumbling it away, providing the Falcons with some momentum.
Davis quickly returned the favor, as Landon Hart picked off a Danny Johnson pass and returned it 26 yards for the opening score.
Running back Tyrel Day and the offensive line then started having their way with the Falcon defense. Day scored on touchdown runs of nine yards, 31 yards and 28 yards to make it 28-0 halfway through the second quarter.
Backup quarterback Tyson Denney connected with Cade Miller for another second quarter TD, while Miles Flake and Tom Poole scored for Davis on second half touchdown runs.
The Falcons got on the scoreboard with 7:13 to play when Johnson threw a one-yard toss to Boston Marsh. Second string quarterback Dereck Winslow then directed a two-play drive in which he threw for 84 yards, including a 40-yard heave to Austin Haynie in the end zone.
