WASHINGTON TERRACE -- Woods Cross coach Fred Fernandes looks at his team and is baffled as to what kind of team he has every Friday night for football. If his team plays the way they did Friday night against the Bonneville Lakers, then he shouldn't have much to worry about.
The running back tandem of Masei Sauni and Antony Kendrick combined for 40 carries and 187 yards rushing in helping the Wildcats to a resounding 27-7 victory over the Lakers at Wallace/Thom Budge Field.
"I thought that we ran the ball well in the second half," Fernandes said. "I was unsure going in what type of team we were going to be whether it was physical or finesse. We want to be balanced running and throwing the ball and I thought that we did some of that tonight."
Bonneville struck first for their only score of the game just minutes into the 1st quarter when Beck Nelson was able to pick off an errant Woods Cross pass. That interception led to a 30-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Boston Nelson to receiver Ryan Anderson for the 7-0 lead.
Woods Cross found the end zone on its next possession as quarterback Tyler Parson went in from a yard out on 4th-and-1. A trick pass led to a 2-point conversion and a lead that the Wildcats would keep for the rest of the night.
Bonneville had a chance to score again on its next drive, but that failed when Woods Cross recovered a fumble inside the 10-yard line. A couple of plays later, Parson found a wide open Darchon Taggart for an 86-yard scoring strike and a 15-7 lead at the half.
Woods Cross forced another turnover from Bonneville that led to a double pass from Parson to Sean Gallager to Taggar. The final score came when tight end T. Fredrickson hauled in a sliding grab from Parson from 14 yards out.
