Raptors pitchers flame Chukars, snap two-game losing streak

OGDEN -- Ogden pitchers combined for 11 strikeouts, on their way to a 6-2 win over the Idaho Falls Chukars at Lindquist Field on Wednesday night.

Starter Garrett Gould picked up his first win of the season striking out five through five innings, allowing two runs (one earned) on four hits.

"From Gould on down the guys did a great job on the mound tonight," Ogden skipper Damon Berryhill said. "This is about his (Gould's) fourth start in a row where he's pitched really well and it's been during a tough month where we haven't put up a lot of runs to help him out."

Juan Polonia started things off for the Chukars with a base hit in the first, before stealing his seventh base of the season during the next at-bat.

Idaho Falls would get another runner on after a catcher interference call on Mike Pericht before Gould (0-4; 4.15 coming in) struck out two, ending the inning before the Chukars could score.

Scoreless in the bottom of the first, Player of the Year candidate Jake Lemmerman (.355) crushed a solo shot over the left-center wall. The dinger was Lemmerman's ninth of the year and brought in his 35th RBI.

"Playing well obviously makes the summer easier," Lemmerman said. "It's a lot tougher when you're struggling and I've dealt with that the last few seasons of summer ball."

Polonia got on base again to start the third for Idaho Falls, coming around to score from second and tying the game at one after a stand-up double to left field from Justin Trapp.

Ogden got the go-ahead run in the bottom of the third after Bobby Coyle walked, stole second and scored as Lemmerman brought home his 36th RBI with a base hit to right field.

Idaho Falls retaliated in the fourth when Malcolm Culver scored from third on a ground out by Jovan Pickett.

The Raptors regained the lead in the bottom of the fourth going up 3-1 after Jonathan Garcia slapped a solo shot over the left field wall, his ninth homer of the year.

Ogden kept things going in the sixth as they loaded the bases with one out before Jesse Bosnik was walked by Idaho Falls left-hander Alan Caldwell, bringing in Ogden's fourth run.

With the bases still full, Leon Landry sent Caldwell's 1-2 pitch down the left field line, scoring Garcia and Chris Henderson and giving the Raptors a 6-2 lead that would hold until the end of the game.

First pitch for the season finale between Ogden (17-12) and Idaho Falls (7-23) is scheduled for 7 p.m. tonight. On Friday, the Raptors open a three-game home stand with the Casper Ghosts.
