OGDEN -- As voters consider the Pioneer League MVP award, several Raptors made strong statements with their efforts during Ogden's 10-4 win over the Idaho Falls Chukars on Thursday night at Lindquist Field.
Jake Lemmerman and Nick Akins each poked a pair of home runs to increase their profile as Ogden used the long ball to put away the Chukars.
Akins, the team leader in homers with 14, and Lemmerman, who leads Ogden in average (.357) as well as on-base percentage and slugging percentage, teamed up with Austin King for a back-to-back home run effort in the third innings as Ogden blew the game open.
Damon Berryhill's squad rapped out 16 hits in jumping out to a 7-0 lead. Only four fielding errors detracted from the effort in front of 2,842 appreciative fans.
Lemmerman and Akins each had a trio of hits, while King, Chris Henderson, Jesse Bosnik and Pedro Guerrero had two hits each.
The effort allowed Brett Montgomery to earn his fourth victory of the season. Montgomery went six innings, allowing five hits with seven strikeouts. Ricardo Rivas and Derek Cone -- who was making this pro debut -- cleaned up on the mound.
Idaho Falls starter Brennon Martin got the first two outs of the game but Lemmerman took him out of the park and Akins followed with another solo shot.
In the third, the Raptors batted around, scoring five runs highlighted by the three homers in a row.
Murray Watts had three hits for Idaho Falls, already out of playoff contention.
Ogden (18-12 in the second half, 41-27 overall) will take on Casper for three games, then finish up with a four-game split series with Orem. Orem leads Casper by 1.5 games for the right to be Ogden's opponent in the South Division playoffs.
