Silver Wolves make amends in 6-1 win

PLAIN CITY -- After suffering through what Fremont considered to be a letdown against Davis earlier this week, the Silver Wolves were looking for a chance to rebound and continue their fantastic season.

Rebound might not cover the description that the Silver Wolves were extremely dominant Thursday afternoon in dispatching the Syracuse Titans 6-1 and keeping their firm grip on second place in the tough Region 1 standings.

"We didn't even have to say anything to the girls today," Fremont coach Sean Hill said. "We came out to set up the canopy and went to talk to (Syracuse coach) Todd (Schwartz) and the girls came out and started right into their warm-ups and were finished and ready to go. We said to go have fun and they played the way we know how."

Fremont got on the board early as Mikkel Minnoch to put one home for the 1-0 lead. That lead ballooned to 2-0 in the 35th minute when midfielder Ryley Hansen took a deflected ball that bounced to her feet and she rifled it inside the near post.

The Silver Wolves continued to pile on the pressure, leading to four second-half goals.

Junior Chansi Crompton tallied the third goal as her hard lined shot found its way under the bar in the 45th minute before Crompton scored again, knocking home a tipped cross off of the fingertips of the Syracuse goalie to put it out of reach at 4-0. The fifth came just 10 minutes later as Morgan Allen found her way to a loose ball inside the six-yard box and hammered one home to the near post.

Syracuse got one back in the 77th minute as McKenna Stephens found her way around the Fremont defense to touch one in on the doorstep. The Silver Wolves added their final goal in stoppage time as Hansen took a through ball and one-timed it.

"It was nice to rebound from the way we played earlier this week," Hill said of their 2-0 loss to Davis.

* WEBER 6, CLEARFIELD 0: At Clearfield, the Warriors got back to their winning ways as they tallied six goals in earning the shutout against the Falcons.

"We played the way we should every week," Weber coach Sheena Knight said. "We jumped on them early and did what we should have been doing for the past two weeks - playing Weber soccer."

The Warriors got two goals from Shalee Davis and solo tallies from Katie Lott, Lexi Malan, Kelsie Tatton and Brooke Saxton.

* DAVIS 4, VIEWMONT 3: At Angel Street Soccer Complex, the longtime rivals staged a classic Region 1 joust before the Darts came out on top.

Davis led 1-0 at halftime on a goal from Melanie Ostler, but Viewmont came roaring out the gates early in the second half with two rapid-fire scores to take a 2-1 lead.

The Darts answered back with three consecutive goals to stake out a 4-2 lead, with the Vikings cutting the deficit in half again.

Kenzie Harrison, Sammi Swan and Annie Johnson scored for Davis in the second half.

Courtney Wallis, Sara Lorscheider and Ali Forsberg each scored for Viewmont.

* LAYTON 11, ROY 0: At Roy West Park, the Lancers won their second straight game behind a breakout offensive effort.

* BONNEVILLE 4, OGDEN 0: At Washington Terrace, Bonneville scored three second-half goals and controlled possession throughout most of the match to secure a victory over the visiting Tigers.

Morgan Whitfield scored two goals, with Avery Ford and Lexie Grilz each adding one of their own.

Keepers Maddie Midgely and Megan Fillpot kept the net empty for the Lakers. Kelsey East played the entire game in goal for the Tigers.

In other games, Logan topped Box Elder 2-1, while Sky View dispatched rival Mountain Crest 3-0.

Region 11

* MORGAN 10, GRANTSVILLE 0: At Grantsville, the Trojans rolled to an easy victory over the Cowgirls.

A.J. Bateman and Kenzie Moore each scored twice, while Becca Rees, Dani Poll, Laura Deru, Lizzy Stauder, Megan Passey and Chelsey Stegelmeier each tallied single goals.

Stegelmeier and Mikayla McDermott shared the shutout in goal.

In the other region games, topped Bear River topped Judge Memorial 3-2, and Juan Diego roughed up Ben Lomond 8-0.
