LAYTON -- Allora Tanner was a proud spectator Saturday when the Knights won the Round Table Rumble.
Tanner, who missed the two-day volleyball tournament with a sinus infection, returned to the lineup Thursday as defending Region 1 champion Northridge swept the Titans 25-23, 26-24, 25-20 in 79 minutes.
"I'm 90 percent healthy and right where I should be," said the 16-year-old Tanner. "You always want to keep working hard and never give up. It was hard not playing in the tournament, but I came and watched the championship match (against Cottonwood) and cheered on my teammates."
Tanner had 18 kills and six digs for Northridge (15-4 overall) in its league opener.
"It surprised everyone that we swept Syracuse," she said. "We worked so hard; we were determined and we wanted it. This is what we get for working hard every day."
Tanner still had post-match sniffles on Thursday.
"It's hard to breathe, but I just get through it," she said. "When the atmosphere changes, I get migraines, a stuffy nose, a sinus infection and body aches -- the whole package."
Tanner is playing outside hitter this year after starting at middle blocker as a sophomore.
"It's a huge adjustment and totally different," she said. "I love trying new things, and I'm still learning the position. Passing and playing defense are new to me. Last year, I just played front row."
The Knights' Larissa Reynolds had nine kills, two block assists, 14 digs and two aces; Brittni Lamb had three kills, one block assist, four digs and an ace; Maggie Whatcott had one kill, three block assists, eight digs and an ace; and setter Liz Goodrich had 25 assists and three digs for Northridge, which had five aces and only three service errors.
