Prep football: Bears slip past Bees in hard-fought win

GARLAND -- On a warm Friday night at Bear Field, the Golden Spike game was played, and the Bear River Bears and Box Elder Bees battled valiantly to the end, as both teams were not going to give in.

In the end, the Bears won a thriller 20-19 over the Bees.

It was a game filled with big plays and great defense by both teams. The first quarter was a defensive battle, as both teams would not allow a score. It took almost six minutes into the second quarter before the Bears started with great field possession and scored on a 11-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Tayton Rose to Dyllon Mercado.

The Bees answered right back with a 15-yard pass from Britton Gunter to Mitch Parrish. The Bears answered right back on a 50-yard bomb to Drake Walker with less than a minute left in the half.

On the ensuing kickoff, the Bees' C.J. Brown returned it 70-yards for a touchdown. The Bears went into the locker room with a 13-12 lead.

In the second half, the two teams each scored a touchdown and extra-point, but the game was not finished as the Bees were driving with less than minute left, when the Bears defense came up with a huge interception on their own 4-yard line to seal the victory.

* JORDAN 63, SKY VIEW 21: At Sandy, the Beetdiggers had no problem dispatching the Bobcats, scoring at least two touchdowns in all four quarters for the blowout victory.

Jordan quarterback McCoy Hill thrashed the Sky View defense with 389 yards and six touchdown passes; three to wideout Taylor Loomis.

Bobcats play-caller Gabe Anderson had a big second quarter, tossing three touchdowns. Don Corbell grabbed two TD scores and Corey Jensen had one as well. Anderson completed 16-consecutive passes in the first half.
