PLEASANT VIEW -- All Day.
Consecutive three-touchdown games and back-to-back 100-yard rushing performances by the Darts' Tyrel Day, and it is only week 3 of the high school football season.
Day, a senior tailback, rushed for a career-high 144 yards and three touchdowns on 20 carries Friday in Davis High's decisive 30-7 Region 1 blowout of the Warriors at Earl Jones Field.
"It's all the line; I just follow the blockers," said the 17-year-old Day. "Weber was getting tired. Our offensive line was the difference, and we kept running the ball. I didn't get tired and could have carried the ball more, but you have to give the backups some time."
Defending Region 1 champion Davis (3-0 overall, 2-0 league) ran for 174 yards on 31 carries behind an offensive line of Court Walker, Brady Roth, Landon Simonsen, Zach Lindsay, Spencer Rudolph and Cade Miller in its first road game this season.
Quarterback Gavin Fowler completed 10-of-16 passes for 204 yards with one interception, as the Darts generated 378 total net yards in 21 minutes, 45 seconds of possession time.
Fowler lost his helmet on a running play down the Weber sideline at 4:48 of the first quarter, suffering a 11âÑ2-inch cut of the top of his head.
He got some stitches behind the Davis bench and came back into the game at 8:14 of the second quarter, and the Darts leading 7-0.
"I wasn't worried when Gavin went out," Day said. "Tyson (Denney) is a good quarterback who will step up and know what to do."
Day was a kick returner as a junior.
"There is not much pressure," he said. "Our line is always good and the defense is tough. The offensive line is amazing; I just follow those guys. Coach (Ryan) Bishop is always preaching ball security.
"I've played running back my whole life, so when it was my time you have to go for it," Day said. "I think we can go pretty far this year. It's all about us, and we don't worry about anybody else."
The Darts were state 5-A runners-up in 2009, finishing 10-3.
Davis converted two Weber turnovers into six points, with Kyle Packer intercepting a pass and Parker Bass recovering a fumble.
"Our offensive line pushed them back, and I was finding the hole," Day said. "We still have a lot to work on, but we're doing pretty well."
The Darts were 5-of-11 on third down, but committed 12 penalties for 134 yards.
The Warriors (2-1, 1-1) were limited to 114 total net yards, including just 6 yards rushing, and averted the shutout with three seconds remaining.
