Prep football: Silver Wolves use balanced attack to down Falcons

CLEARFIELD -- The Fremont Silver Wolves dominated throughout the night, led by running back Nick Vigil, who had his way on the ground with a pair of touchdown runs Friday in a 24-12 Region 1 victory over Clearfield.

Silver Wolves quarterback Aaron Van Woerkom also through a 15-yard touchdown pass to Rowdy Stucki.

Clearfield quarterback Derek Winslow hit receiver Robert Lyons for two long touchdown passes in the fourth quarter, but missed both an extra point and two-point conversion attempt.

Vigil finished the night with 146 rushing yards.

Bountiful 17, Logan 6

At Bountiful, the Braves used a 14-point first-half lead to hold off the visiting Grizzlies.

Bountiful quarterback Cam Zollinger drew first blood with a 1-yard touchdown plunge and then connected with receiver Tyler Poppe for a 24-yard touchdown pass in the second quarter. Logan's DJ Nelson scored a late touchdown in the loss.

Mountain Crest 42, Woods Cross 35

At Woods Cross, the Mustangs edged the Wildcats in a shootout after quarterback Alex Kuresa put the game away with a 42-yard touchdown run with 30 seconds remaining in the game.

Kuresa finished with three TD rushes and one TD pass to receiver Taylor Root. Nate Rigby also had a rushing score for the Mustangs.

Woods Cross used three huge plays to stay in the game: A 76-yard touchdown pass from Sean Barton to Darchon Taggart, an 80-yard strike from Tyler Parson to Barton and a 96-yard kick return for a score by Adam Hales.

Gunnison 27, Layton Christian 20

At Gunnison, Henri Jussila rushed for 269 yards but the Eagles lost when they blocked a late Gunnison field goal attempt, only to see a Gunnison player scoop up the ball and run for the winning score.

Jussila and his teammates rushed for 378 yards.

Colin Greenhill paced the LCA (1-1) defense with 18 tackles.

Tooele 48, Ben Lomond 13

At Ogden, the Scots were looking for a little home cooking and had scores in the first and third quarters but still fell to the Buffaloes in non-league action.

Stansbury 51, Ogden 0

At Stansbury Park, the Tigers are still looking for their first win in 2010 after a tough road loss.
