Raptors drop one to Owlz

OREM -- The Raptors got all of their runs early, but the Owlz waited them out and walked away the winners.

Orem defeated Ogden 5-3 at Brent Brown Ballpark on Tuesday night.

Ogden's Leon Landry doubled and scored to get the Raptors on the board in the first inning. Blake Dean doubled in Chris Henderson and Nick Akins scored on a Jonathan Garcia sacrifice fly to make it 3-0, but the Raptors were done scoring for the day.

Hampton Tignor lifted a sacrifice fly to center off Ogden reliever Raul Burgos to score Wes Hatton to give Orem the go-ahead run in the bottom of the sixth. Burgos (1-1) took the loss.

Orem added one more insurance run in the eighth on an RBI single by Heid.

Garrett Gould struck out seven Owlz in five innings and held Orem to just three runs while scattering 10 hits. It wasn't enough to keep the Owlz from tying up the score in the third. Andrew Heid hit a solo shot with one out to get Orem on the board, then a pair of singles by Jake Rife and Kole Calhoun set the stage for Travis Witherspoon's two-run double to right field to even things up.

Justin La Tempa (1-2) tossed 22âÑ3 innings in relief for the win and AJ Schugel pitched the ninth inning for the save.

The Raptors return home tonight to face the Owlz for a short two-game series to finish the season.
