Jayhawks perfect in volleyball tourney

OGDEN -- St. Joseph went undefeated (6-0) in sweeping top team honors at its own Jayhawk Invitational high school volleyball tournament held Friday and Saturday at St. Joseph and St. Paul Lutheran.

The Jayhawks defeated Region 17 rival Christian Heritage 25-17, 25-21 on Saturday in the gold bracket championship match at St. Joseph.

Defending state 2-A champion Layton Christian swept Duchesne 2-0 on Saturday in the silver bracket championship match at St. Paul Lutheran.

Jayhawks freshman Britt Sederholm was named the Jayhawk Invitational most valuable player.

Top of Utah players selected to the 11-member all-tournament team included: Lauren Crockett, Ogden; Melina Bachtar, Layton Christian; Kelly Roberts, Christian Heritage; Teja Mangum and Lindsey James, Ben Lomond; and Kristine Voet, St. Joseph.

Search begins for Wendy's Heisman

Wendy's is looking for the next class of remarkable students who excel in academics, athletics and community involvement. Celebrating its 17th year, the 2010 Wendy's High School Heisman award application process is under way. Now through Oct. 3, eligible students (graduating class of 2011) can apply and submit their applications at www.WendysHeisman.com.

From the applications, one male and one female winner will be chosen to receive the Wendy's High School Heisman award. Utah prep sports officials honored

The Utah Sports Hall of Fame Foundation and the Utah High School Activities Association will honor nine Utahns for their careers in officiating athletic events. The Sept. 22 event at the South
