GARLAND -- The Bear River Bears opened Region 11 play with a huge 14-7 victory over the Judge Memorial Bulldogs Friday night, and it made the fans extra happy as it was the Bears' homecoming game.
The Bears have made huge defensive stands at the end of games to pull out victories, and Friday was no exception.
Judge had the ball first-and-goal as time was running out and the defense of the Bears held firm as they had all night and preserved the first region win.
Judge scored first on a touchdown pass from Delacenserie to Lawless in the first quarter, and then both teams defenses went to work controlling the rest of the first half.
The Bears finally scored on an 81-yard touchdown run by Payton Wells to knot the score at 7-7. The Bears scored their final TD on a 1-yard run by Wade Miller.
It was the Bears defense that set the tone for the game, as they stopped the Bulldogs offense with big plays. The Bears had three interceptions by Justin Cutler, Gabriel Majia and Hunter Payne, to stop the Bulldogs in Bears territory.
* GRANTSVILLE 42, BEN LOMOND 13: At Ogden, the Scots had their first win of the season on their mind early, trailing 14-13 at halftime, but the Cowboys opened things up in the second half, scoring 28 unanswered points for the win.

* LAYTON CHRISTIAN 27, MILFORD 14: At Layton, Henri Jussila continued his stellar 2010 campaign, piling up 173 yards on 21 carries with three touchdowns to power the Eagles to victory.
Jussila scored on runs of 6, 52 a 4 yards and Nick Edwards had a 4-yard TD run of his own.
Defensively, Layton Christian's Colin Greenhill and Denzel Gibson combined for 19 tackles and 21âÑ2 sacks against the Tigers' offense.
