Williams' 24 boosts UVU to victory

HOUSTON -- Isiah Williams scored a game-high 24 points, including six 3-pointers, to lift Utah Valley to a 73-66 victory over Houston Baptist on Saturday night.

The Wolverines (14-9, 6-1 Great West) took the lead early in the first half and never let it go. They led by as many as 17 points shortly after halftime.

Geddes Robinson snagged a double-double for the Wolverines with 11 points and a game-high 14 rebounds while Jordan Swarbrick added 19 points.

The Huskies (3-19, 2-5) pulled within four points with about a minute left when Andrew Gonzalez hit a jumper and then made a quick layup. Houston Baptist got no closer after that.

Gonzalez finished with a team-high 21 points while Shawn Echols added 13, Michael Moss 11 and Terry Bembry 10 for the Huskies.

 

 

* NORTHERN ARIZONA 70, MONTANA 53: At Flagstaff, Ariz., Cameron Jones scored 17 points and Northern Arizona snapped a six-game losing streak against Montana.

Eric Platt scored 14 points off the bench and Shane Johannsen added 12 for the Lumberjacks (14-8, 6-4 Big Sky), who have won four straight.

Brian Qvale had 17 points and eight rebounds for the Grizzlies (16-7, 8-3), who dropped out of first place in the Big Sky after their second straight loss. Derek Selvig scored 12 and Kareem Jamar added 10 for Montana.

Northern Arizona, which outrebounded the bigger Grizzlies 33-26, used a 15-0 run to open a 21-point lead midway through the second half.

* NORTHERN COLORADO 85, PORTLAND STATE 72: At Greeley, Colo., Devon Beitzel had 15 points and six assists as Northern Colorado moved into sole possession of first place in the Big Sky by beating Portland State.

Emmanuel Addo matched a career high with 14 points for the Bears (13-9, 9-2), who led by 27 points in the second half. Tate Unruh added 13 points.

Phillip Thomas led Portland State (11-12, 4-7) with 13 points.

* EASTERN WASHINGTON 69, IDAHO STATE 67: At Pocatello, Idaho, Tremayne Johnson's layup with 19 seconds left lifted Eastern Washington past Idaho State.

Johnson's basket gave the Eagles (8-15, 5-6 Big Sky) a 68-67 lead. The Bengals (6-16, 2-8) had a chance to retake the lead with 10 seconds remaining, but Phyllip Taylor missed two free throws. Glen Dean, who led Eastern Washington with 17 points, added a free throw with 5 seconds left.

* COLORADO STATE 59, WYOMING 56: At Laramie, Wyo., Pierce Hornung had 10 points and 11 rebounds off the bench to lift Colorado State (16-7, 6-3 MWC) over Wyoming. The game saw seven ties and 14 lead changes. Wyoming (8-15, 1-8), which lost its seventh straight game got 21 from Francisco Cruz.
