Outlaws can't bury shots in home loss

WASHINGTON TERRACE -- The Outlaws unveiled a new look on Friday night.

Unfortunately for Ogden's sixth-year Premier Development League side, the result was ultimately the same.

Despite out-possessing and out-shooting its opponent, Ogden fell 2-1 to Southern California at Bonneville High School.

"We did the things we've been working on in training," Ogden owner/coach Mike Hickman said. "I felt like we played good, high-quality soccer in the first half. It was exciting and fun to watch. We just didn't finish the chances we had."

And the Outlaws had plenty of those, rattling off 16 shots to the Seahorses' five attempts and carried significantly more of the play, especially in the opening and closing half-hours.

"We had some very good looks at the goal," Hickman said. "They weren't 30-35 yard shots; we had possession of the ball deep in the box and just for whatever reason couldn't get it in the back of the net."

Ogden had two shots go off the crossbar, including one in the first half that bounced down halfway across the goal-line before being cleared. In all, Seahorses' goalkeeper Matthew Gow made nine saves to help carry his team to the win.

Southern California (5-2-1, 16 points) took a 1-0 advantage in the 16th minute on a penalty kick by Jaime Lara, and then doubled the advantage on Ryan Shaw's 27th minute goal.

Ogden outshot Southern California 7-2 in the second half, and was finally rewarded in stoppage time when Colby Liston finished a pass from Evans Tackie-Yarboi.

The Outlaws will host the Orange County Blue Star today at 6 p.m. The Blue Star faced BYU late on Friday night.
