SALT LAKE CITY-- The Utah Blaze announced the signing of DB Jacoby Shepherd to the 2011 roster. Shepherd will add valuable experience to the secondary Saturday as Utah faces the Spokane Shock in its first regular-season outdoor arena football game.
"I am pleased to have a player with Jacoby Shepherd's experience sign with the Blaze," said coach Ron James. "He has played for us in the past and his leadership will be valuable at this point in the season."
Shepherd (6-3, 220, Oklahoma State) enters his fourth season in the AFL after spending two years with the Blaze from 2007-08. He began his career with the Dallas Desperados in 2006 and has cumulated 55.0 total tackles, three pass breakups, one interception and one forced fumble in his career. From 2000-04, Shepherd played for the St. Louis Rams, Houston Texans, Green Bay Packers, New York Jets, Detroit Lions and Oakland Raiders.
The Blaze also activated FB/LB Ben Stallings from the injured reserve list and placed DB Dante Barnes and DL Khreem Smith on other league exempt.
The Blaze face the defending ArenaBowl XXII champion Shock Saturday at 7 p.m. The game will telecast on CW-30.
