Early morning stabbing reported at W. Bountiful home

WEST BOUNTIFUL — A 22-year-old man is facing attempted murder charges after stabbing a juvenile family member in the early morning hours Wednesday.

Mitchell Howe was booked in the Davis County Jail on no bail by West Bountiful police.

Criminal Division Chief David Cole, with the Davis County Attorney’s Office, said the case is being reviewed and charges could be filed as early as Friday.

URBANA, Ohio — A man suspected of stabbing, suffocating and dismembering his girlfriend told a newspaper that he met her through Facebook while looking for new friends and that he met two of his alleged accomplices at a library just three days before the killing.

Attorneys believe man accused in stabbing death is unfit for trial

FARMINGTON — Attorneys believe the man police said stabbed a woman 51 times is no longer mentally competent to stand trial.

Phillip Simmons, 40, who is charged with first-degree felony murder, appeared Tuesday in 2nd District Court. He is being held in Davis County Jail in lieu of $100,000 bail.

“From communications expressed with me, frankly, I’m starting to get concerned again,” said Mark Arrington, Simmons’ attorney.

Charges still pending over body found in Roy

OGDEN — Sarah Munn was in court Tuesday on charges related to a body found buried in her yard, but the hallway conversation was about the man police say dug the hole.

As to charges against Daniel Rivera, after Munn’s last hearing on Feb. 21, Weber County Attorney Dee Smith said a big question remaining was which county, Davis or Weber, to file them in.

Smith would not comment further after Tuesday’s status conference for Munn, who is charged with obstruction of justice regarding the recovery of the body of Victor Flores, 25, on Feb. 10 in her Roy backyard. Rivera dug the hole where the body was buried, according to court documents tied to the charges against Munn.

Preliminary hearing set for Bountiful woman accused of fatally stabbing boyfriend

FARMINGTON — A preliminary hearing has been set for the woman accused of stabbing her boyfriend to death following a daylong argument.

Second District Court Judge David Hamilton set May 10 for a preliminary hearing for Shannon Ryan Sander, 43, of Bountiful. A preliminary hearing is when a judge decides if there is enough evidence for a case to go forward with a trial.

MONTESANO, Wash. -- Grays Harbor County sheriff's deputies are searching for a man who stabbed Superior Court Judge Dave Edwards and shot a sheriff's deputy at the county courthouse in Montesano, Wash., Friday afternoon.
