Standard-Examiner launches new mobile website, apps

OGDEN -- The Standard-Examiner has launched a new mobile-optimized website and two apps designed for smartphones.

This provides readers a customized digital experience based on the device being used. When a reader goes to the main website at www.standard.net, the site detects the type of handset in use and shows the appropriate mobile-optimized website display and content.

Event today, Saturday all about spas, updates

OGDEN -- Home improvement is the theme for the 2011 Fall Home Show & Spa Expo sponsored by the Standard-Examiner.

"A lot of people are rethinking their homes instead of buying a brand-new home," said event coordinator Jennifer Thorpe.

Lesson: Disability not a boundary

OGDEN — Mike Taylor would like people to understand a few things that are crystal clear to him:

People with disabilities need to know they can find employment if they work hard and get really good at a skill that interests them.

And employers need to know that disabled people make great employees because they love their job, they are rarely late or unfocused, and they know the value of a job, so they are loyal.

OHS documentary exemplifies changing news media

“The Million Dollar School,” the Standard-Examiner documentary about Ogden High School, had a “mini” debut screening this week.

Every generation has touchstones in history, momentous events so big that you never forget where you were and what you were doing when you heard the news.

Nancy Van Valkenburg

While making documentary, reporter grows to love OHS

OGDEN -- Nancy Van Valkenburg did not graduate from Ogden High School, but she wishes she had.

The sentiment developed as the Standard-Examiner reporter shot her documentary, "The Million Dollar School." The film documents the $65 million renovation of the high school, a renovation that is scheduled to finish at the end of next year.
