Standoff ends as shooting suspect taken into custody

OGDEN -- A standoff between police and an unidentified teen gunman ended shortly before 4:30 p.m. when the gunman was taken into custody.

Teachers at Dee Elementary School at 550 22nd St. called police at 12:50 p.m. after the man was seen on the roof of a house in the neighborhood firing a gun, Lt. Danielle Croyle said.

"We have reports of him standing on his roof shooting his gun in the air," she said. "A playground monitor at Dee Elementary School reported hearing two or three shots fired."

Because the suspect's house abuts the playground, students were immediately taken inside and kept on lockdown even after the school day ended.

No injuries were been reported. The man retreated into the home when police arrived. Police had advised neighbors to "shelter in place" inside their homes and stay away from windows.

The Ogden Police Department SWAT team was deployed to the house at 2122 Adams Ave. Children are being kept in the school at 550 22nd St. while police wait for a search warrant to enter the home and try to resolve the standoff.
