Judge limits recordings of Sloop hearing

FARMINGTON — In an almost empty courtroom, Stephanie Sloop appeared Friday afternoon before Judge Glen C. Dawson.

Prosecutors given more time to consider death penalty for Nathanael Sloop

FARMINGTON — A judge has granted more time for the Davis County Attorney’s Office to decide if it is going to seek the death penalty for the man accused of killing 4-year-old Ethan Stacy.

Judge Glen C. Dawson on Tuesday approved an agreement between prosecutors and defense attorneys to give prosecutors until early December to file their notice of intent to seek the death penalty for Nathanael Warren Sloop.

Sloop, 33, of Layton, briefly appeared in 2nd District Court.

Stephanie Sloop's attorney awaits status of Nathanael's case

FARMINGTON — Stephanie Sloop’s attorney wants to wait before she and her client move forward, to make sure Nathanael Sloop is not going to ask for a preliminary hearing.

Nathanael Sloop’s preliminary hearing “went away with a conditional waiver, and it remains to be seen if it will be gone permanently or if it will come back,” said Mary C. Corporon, Stephanie Sloop’s attorney.

Stephanie Sloop and Corporon appeared before Judge Glen C. Dawson in 2nd District Court on Tuesday. Dawson set another roll call hearing for Oct. 12.

Nathan Sloop waives preliminary hearing

FARMINGTON — A judge set a felony arraignment hearing for the man charged with the murder of 4-year-old Ethan Stacy.

Nathan Sloop, 33, carrying a large, clear, plastic bag filled with legal documents, appeared Tuesday before Judge Glen Dawson, who set May 22 for the hearing. At that time, Sloop is expected to enter either a plea of not guilty or guilty to the charges stemming from the boy’s death on May 9, 2010.

Sloop, and his wife, Stephanie Sloop, 29, both of Layton, are each charged with aggravated murder, second-degree felony child abuse, second-degree felony obstruction of justice and third-degree felony abuse or desecration of a body.

FARMINGTON — A preliminary hearing for the man charged with the murder of 4-year-old Ethan Stacy has been changed from five days to one.

Could evidence prove Stephanie Sloop innocent?

FARMINGTON — Prosecutors may have evidence that could prove the innocence of Stephanie Sloop, her attorney said.

FARMINGTON — Evidentiary hearings for Nathanael and Stephanie Sloop, who are accused of murdering 4-year-old Ethan Stacy, have been continued until late October and early November.

Stephanie Sloop's defense seeks medical records

FARMINGTON -- Stephanie Sloop's defense attorney has asked a judge to order Sloop's therapist to hand over medical records.

Mary Corporon filed a motion in 2nd District Court on July 1 requesting the judge grant "an order compelling Dr. Rob Pramann, Ph.D., to comply with the subpoena served" by the defense.

Stephanie Sloop, 28, and her husband, Nathanael Sloop, 32, both of Layton, are charged with aggravated murder in the death of Stephanie's 4-year-old son, Ethan Stacy.

Hearing canceled in Sloop case

FARMINGTON -- A hearing for oral arguments in the case against Nathanael and Stephanie Sloop has been canceled.

"Both the state and defense attorneys have stipulated that the hearing is no longer necessary at this time," said Nancy Volmer, spokeswoman with the Administrative Office of the Courts.
