BUFFALO, N.Y. — A nor’easter packing high winds, soaking rain and springtime snow churned up the Northeast on Monday, unleashing a burst of winter, closing some schools and sparking worries about power outages in communities that were basking in record warmth a month ago.

ARLINGTON, Texas — The tornado hurtled toward the nursing home. Physical therapist Patti Gilroy said she saw the swirling mass barreling down through the back door, after she herded patients into the hallway in the order trained: walkers, wheelchairs, then beds.

Tornado tears through Michigan city

DEXTER, Mich. -- Sandy Pollard was driving to her Dexter, Mich., home about 5:50 p.m. Thursday when she met up with an approaching tornado.

Despite the pouring rain and high winds that ripped the windshield wipers off her car, she didn't stop. All she could think about was her 17-year-old daughter, Amanda, who was home alone.

Obama confirms disaster payout for Davis wind storm damage

KAYSVILLE -- Mayor Steve Hiatt admits there is always some doubt when asking the federal government for money.

San Gabriel Valley still feeling effects of windstorm

LOS ANGELES -- Los Angeles County's most potent windstorm in recent years continued to dole out complications Saturday, depriving around 80,000 homes and businesses of power for a third day and sapping pre-holiday spirit in some foothill communities.

Nearly 74,000 Southern California Edison customers remained without power as of early afternoon Saturday in about a dozen San Gabriel Valley communities, including Pasadena, Temple City, San Marino and Arcadia. Utility workers handed out flashlights, ice and bottled water to affected residents.

Crews still working to restore power in east Kaysville

KAYSVILLE -- Many residents on the east side of Main Street remained without power Saturday, but the city hopes to have it restored soon.

Gov. offers sympathies amid destructive Utah storm

SALT LAKE CITY -- Gov. Gary Herbert is offering his sympathies and support for Utah residents who were injured or suffered property damage when winds reaching 102 mph toppled trucks, did millions of dollars in damage and triggered at least three serious injuries.
