DEAN'S LIST: Kenneth T. Harris, of Bountiful; Val R. Jones and Larry N. Nessen, both of Farmington; and Timothy L. Foster, of Layton, were named to the dean's list for the October and January eight-week sessions at Columbia College, Mo. Students must have completed 12 semester hours in a 16-week period and achieved a minimum grade-point average of 3.5 on a four-point scale to achieve dean's list status.

DEAN'S LIST: Hannah Leigh Lantz of Layton is on the Truman State University Fall President's List. To qualify for the dean's list an undergraduate student must attain a semester 4.0 grade point average and complete 12 semester hours of credit. Truman University is in Kirksville, Mo.

Melanie Michelle Pforts of Clearfield is on the University of Iowa's Dean's List for 2011 fall semester. To qualify for this list an undergraduate must have completed at least 12 semester hours and maintained a grade point average of 3.5 or higher. University of Iowa is Iowa City, Iowa.

DEGREE RECIPIENT: Shirlene Olson, of Clearfield, received a Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree from Mercy College of Health Sciences in Des Moines, Iowa.

HONOR ROLL: Ethan Summers, of Ogden, has been awarded for academic excellence during the 2011 fall semester at Lipscomb University in Nashville, Tenn. Summers is a Bonneville High School graduate and corporate management concentration major. To achieve honor roll status, students need a grade-point average of 3.5 to 3.99.

North Ogden man receives doctoral degree

NORTH OGDEN — Scott P. Spendlove, son of Gregg and Laura Spendlove of North Ogden, was one of 233 students who received a doctor of osteopathic medicine degree from Kansas City University of Medicine and Biosciences in ceremonies held May 14 in Kansas City, Mo.

Dr. Spendlove is a 2002 graduate of Weber High School in Pleasant View who earned a Bachelor of Interdisciplinary Studies degree from Weber State University in Ogden. He will complete postdoctoral training in anesthesiology at University of Texas Health Sciences Center in San Antonio.

West Haven student awarded BS degree

LARAMIE, Wyo. — The University of Wyoming accorded degrees upon a Utah student at the completion of the 2011 spring semester.

Brianna M. Ramsey of West Haven earned a Bachelor of Science degree from the university.

Located in Laramie, the University of Wyoming is the state’s only four-year higher education institution, offering more than 180 programs of study.

Roy students earn Brown scholarship

ROY — Two Roy High School graduates have been chosen as recipients of the sixth annual “Heart of a Champion: Kyle Brown Memorial Scholarship.”

The scholarship recognizes student-athletes who excel in the classroom as well as on the playing field, but more importantly whose character and friendship inspire those around them.

Scholarship Winner

Davis County student Amileah DeMille of Davis High School in Kaysville recently was awarded the Horatio Alger Scholarship.

Scholars receive $5,000 toward their college education. Students are selected for the scholarship because they persevered in overcoming adversity while succeeding academically, contributing to the community and exhibiting exemplary character. Utah scholarships are made possible by the Rocky Mountain Power Foundation.
