Ogden firm awarded bid

SYRACUSE -- An Ogden company has been awarded the bid to complete reconstruction of 2400 West from 2700 South to 2877 South for $218,004.

In a special meeting, council members voted unanimously to award the project bid to Staker Parson Companies of Ogden to reconstruct 2700 South and also to install new asphalt on 2700 South from 2750 West to 3000 West.

Construction is expected to begin as soon as contract documents are in place.

Syracuse names new development director

SYRACUSE -- Sherrie Christensen has been appointed as the city’s newest community and economic development director.

The city council voted unanimously Tuesday to appoint Christensen to the position, replacing Michael Eggett who resigned to take a new job with Riverdale.

Christensen takes the position after working for the city for only nine months. However, she worked as planning and development services director for Morgan County for four years.

Syracuse reaffirms gun rights

SYRACUSE — The Second Amendment of the U.S. Constitution got a shot in the arm Tuesday when the Syracuse City Council adopted a resolution reaffirming its support of it.

Allegations filed with Davis attorney against Syracuse mayor, others

SYRACUSE — Allegations of “inappropriate” conduct, some “criminal in nature,” against Syracuse city officials, and counter allegations made against some making those claims, has prompted an investigation by the Davis County Attorney’s Office.

Those named in the allegations, which a group of residents shared with the county attorney’s office, are Syracuse Mayor Jamie Nagle, City Manager Robert Rice, City Attorney Will Carlson and City Recorder Cassie Brown.

Infrastructure project awarded

SYRACUSE -- An Ogden company has been awarded a bid to undertake one of the city’s largest infrastructure projects for approximately $2.7 million.

In action taken recently, the city council formally awarded the bid for road improvement and other infrastructure improvements at 2500 West and 700 South to Advanced Paving and Construction. Advanced was one of 10 bidders for the work, according to Robert Whitely, public works director.

Work should be completed in the area by August, Whitely said.

Syracuse approves land rezone

SYRACUSE -- City officials have approved a request from Ovation Homes to rezone 16 acres of property at approximately 3000 South and 2000 West from A-1 agriculture to R-1 residential.

The rezone is in conformance with the city’s general plan and was approved at a recent meeting by a unanimous vote of the city council. It was also approved unanimously earlier by the city’s planning commission.

The property is located directly south of the existing phases of Trailside Park Subdivision. The developer intends to develop the property as future phases of the subdivision, with inclusion to the Trailside Park Home Owners Association, according to Michael Eggett, director of community and economic development.
