Letterman cranky, sour, mean - and the late-night master

When David Letterman announced his impending retirement from the "Late Show" last week, it wasn't much of a surprise. He'd been hinting at it for a while.What did surprise me a little: all the press coverage and, even more, the pained reaction I saw on social media. I thought only Obamacare and Malaysia Airlines Flight 370 were newsworthy.
