Swiss bus crash kills 28, including 22 children

GENEVA -- A tour bus slammed into a tunnel wall in the Swiss Alps in a horrific accident that killed 22 school children and six adults returning to Belgium from a joyous ski vacation, police said Wednesday.

Interstate bus crash injures more than 30

GIBBON, Neb. -- A Denver-bound bus rammed into an overturned semitrailer in central Nebraska early Thursday, injuring dozens of people including five who were hospitalized.

Jail for driver in fatal Utah bus crash

SALT LAKE CITY -- A tour bus driver who caused a crash that killed three Japanese tourists last year was spared a lengthy prison term Friday when a judge sentenced him to less than a year in jail for his role in the wreck.

Driver in deadly bus crash faces arraignment

The driver of the Sky Express bus in Tuesday's deadly crash will be arraigned in a Virginia court Friday morning on reckless driving charges.

Investigators say Kin Yiu Cheung, 37, was sleepy when his bus swerved off northbound Interstate 95, hit an embankment and flipped, killing four women and injuring 53 other passengers.

Senate panel OKs bills seeking new tour bus, pipeline safety rules

WASHINGTON -- Recent fatal accidents involving tour buses and interstate gas pipelines spurred a Senate committee on Thursday to order new safety rules.

New buses would have seat belts, stronger roofs and better windows to reduce the chance of death or injury in accidents under one of the bills. Also, physicals for drivers would have to be performed by certified medical personnel, and a tracking system would be created to make sure licenses are up to date and no unqualified drivers are allowed on the road.

Officials: 13 dead in NYC tour bus accident

NEW YORK — Thirteen people died Saturday when a bus returning from a casino flipped onto its side on a major highway in the Bronx and was sliced in half by the support pole for a large sign, authorities said.

The driver, who survived, told police he lost control after being clipped by a tractor trailer. Police began a hunt for the truck, which did not stop after the crash, New York Police Department spokesman Paul Browne said.

The wreck left a scene of carnage and closed the southbound side of Interstate-95 for hours while emergency workers attended to critically injured survivors and removed bodies.

Lawsuit filed by passenger in Utah tour bus crash

 SALT LAKE CITY  — The driver for a group of Japanese tourists had little sleep after an 11-hour work day and was dozing off when the shuttle bus rolled on a southern Utah highway and killed three passengers, according to a lawsuit filed by two of the 14 tourists.
