Wildcat men in first; women contend at Big Sky

PORTLAND, Ore. — After a strong first day the Weber State men’s track and field team sits in first place at the 2013 Big Sky Outdoor Championships.

The Wildcat women’s team is in the mix at the meet held in Portland, Ore. WSU sits sixth overall.

Henry's steeplechase time nearly nation's fastest

PALO ALTO, Calif. — Senior All-American Amber Henry ran a 9:55.07 steeple chase at the Stanford Invitational hosted by a Stanford University. That time is the fastest time in the West Region and the second-best time in the nation.

WSU's Callister earns invite to prestigious track event

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. — Weber State women’s track and field standout Sarah Callister has been selected to represent the United States at the 2012 North American, Central American and Caribbean U-23 Championships, scheduled for July 6-8 in Guanajuato, Mexico.

The NACAC Athletic Association’s U-23 Championships are held every two years in one of the 32 member nations of the North America, Central America and Caribbean Athletic Association.

Next time you're perusing the scoreboard page and you read about a Major League ballplayer who's on the 15-day disabled list because of a strained earlobe, think of Amber Henry.

DES MOINES, Iowa -- As she took her mark in Friday evening's women's 3,000 meter finals at the 2012 NCAA outdoor track and field championships, Weber State's Amber Henry figured nothing could hold her back; not even a broken clavicle, torn meniscus and bruised femur were going to kept her down.

Turns out, it got worse before it got better.

WSU track duo preps for NCAA championships

DES MOINES, Iowa -- Two Weber State track and field athletes are headed to the NCAA Outdoor Track Championships this week at Drake University.

Amber Henry and Mike Hardy will compete in the steeplechase event at the NCAA meet, along with 14 other Utah athletes.

Nine Weber State athletes have qualified for the 2012 NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championship West Regional.

The ultimate goal of getting to Des Moines, Iowa, for the finals, begins today through Saturday at the University of Texas at Austin.

Tigers go distance for 3-A girls track crown

PROVO -- The track and field team from Ogden High knew its distance runners were good, and after Saturday's state track and field championships at BYU's Clarence Robison Stadium, everyone else does too.

"There has been a lot of press on winning state based solely on distance," Ogden coach Don Hall said. "This year we feel especially proud because not only did we win it on distance but we had some good competition."

Nye leads Darts to another 5-A track title

PROVO -- Senior runner Brad Nye led the Davis charge with a trio of gold medals in the 1,600, 3,200 and 800 meters at BYU's Clarence Robison Stadium as the Darts captured the 2012 state 5-A track and field championship with a team total 124.5 points.

"Event after event our guys just kind of fed off each other and one thing after another went right," Davis coach Corbin Talley said. "And one event at a time is how they took it, and eventually won the meet."

PROVO -- Coach Don Hall joked last week he would try to go win a state track and field title with a pack of distance runners.

Surprises aplenty: WSU women falter, men shine

BOZEMAN, Mont. -- It was a surprising finish for the Weber State men's outdoor track and field team, and a heartbreaking one for the Wildcat women Saturday at the 2012 Big Sky Conference outdoor track and field championships in Bozeman, Mont.

Region 5 track action under way

HYRUM -- Bringing home the Region 5 track and field titles will be a tall task, but the southern schools in the league will give it a shot.

Box Elder, Roy and Bonneville made their mark on the first day of acion at the region meet at Mountain Crest High, with the Bees leading the girls standings and sitting one point behind Sky View in the boys standings.
