Clearfield crosswalks removed to ease traffic flow

CLEARFIELD -- Two crosswalks on State Street no longer exist, police said.

Clearfield Police Chief Greg Krusi said the crosswalks at 100 N. State St. and 442 S. State St. were taken out earlier this week. Pedestrians should cross State Street at the intersections.

UDOT: 2012 will be a record-breaking year for roadwork

OGDEN — Get ready for a busy commute — 2012 will be the busiest road construction season in history.

The Utah Department of Transportation has released its 20 most significant road projects for the upcoming construction season as part of its “Know Where Know Why” campaign.

The list includes significant work on some of UDOT’s largest projects, which are all scheduled for completion this year, said UDOT spokesman Nate McDonald.

OGDEN — Four people have been taken to hospitals after an accident involving seven vehicles at 12th Street and Harrison Boulevard.

An eyewitness said a Hummer coming out of Ogden Canyon on 12th Street ran a red light, hit a minivan, went airborne and struck a pickup truck and a car. The truck was then rear-ended by another car.

Seven-car accident slows traffic on I-15

RIVERDALE — A seven-vehicle accident brought late Friday afternoon traffic to a crawl on Interstate 15.

The accident occurred in the southbound lanes near Mile Marker 340, and no one was hurt, said Susan Thomas, a Utah Department of Public Safety spokeswoman.

While troopers cleared the accident, traffic slowed and backed up at least as far as the 24th Street exit in Ogden.

Hay truck fire backs up traffic on I-15 near Farmington

FARMINGTON — Jonathan Owens saw the flames in his rearview mirror and knew he needed to pull over fast.

Owens, 33, was driving a semitrailer from Bear River to Delta, carrying 26 one-ton bales of hay.

“There were lots of flames,” Owens said. “They were in the deck (of the truck) and on the tires.”

HOOPER — There was a time when everyone who lived here waved at passers-by because everyone, it seemed, was a friend or a relative.

That close small-town association isn’t true anymore. The city has grown by 1,000 percent in one man’s lifetime. But that man doesn’t want to forget his roots.

Interstate 15 work set to begin Sunday between Clearfield, Roy

Work is set to begin Sunday on a new northbound lane on Interstate 15 between 650 North in Clearfield and 5600 South in Roy.

Crews will work from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. each day, Sunday through Friday, and possibly on some Saturdays.

Work on the shoulder, which is already under way, will continue until the project is completed, likely by summer.

The Utah Department of Transportation advises drivers to take U.S. 89 to westbound Interstate 84 and return to I-15 in Riverdale or take 1900 West at Clearfield and return to I-15 at Hinckley Drive.

Higher UTA fares start April 1

OGDEN — A systemwide fare increase for all Utah Transit Authority services goes into effect late next week.

The change comes as part of the agency’s overall budget planning to support its services and operations, said UTA spokesman Gerry Carpenter.
