Cargo survives unplanned slide

MOUNTAIN GREEN -- A semitrailer full of ice cream got away from its driver Wednesday afternoon.

The driver was hauling ice cream in his 105-foot-long truck and trailer from Colorado to Salt Lake City when he pulled over in a rest area on westbound Interstate 84 near Mountain Green.

He thought he had parked the truck -- but it turned out he had not -- and the rig rolled forward, went over a curb and down onto an embankment at 4:45 p.m., said Utah Highway Patrol Sgt. John Ely.

The back half of the truck was still in the parking lot.

The front end was mired in mud, and it took crews more than an hour to pull it out, Ely said. The roll did not hurt the truck's refrigeration unit, he said, and the ice cream was not in danger of melting.
