Davis County readjusts speed limits in Val Verde development

BOUNTIFUL — Speed limits in Val Verde near Bountiful are being readjusted after Davis County received complaints about the posted speeds being too fast on one road and too slow on another.

Legacy Highway shooting suspect involved in other gun-related incidents

FARMINGTON — A man arrested for allegedly shooting at a truck on Legacy Highway and then exchanging gunfire with police Wednesday night admitted to investigators he’s also responsible for other recent, gun-related incidents in Salt Lake County, according to court documents.

Official: UDOT work to improve safety seen in 2012 fatality numbers

OGDEN — Deaths on Utah roads continue to trend downward, a new report shows.

The Utah Department of Transportation and Utah Highway Patrol released yearly traffic fatality statistics this week that show 215 people died on Utah’s roads during 2012, a 42 percent drop since 2000. In 2011, the state had 243 fatalities.

The number of fatalities in Utah hasn’t been this low since 1974, said UDOT Executive Director John Njord.

Snow plow hits ambulance

EDEN — A state snowplow truck struck an ambulance Friday afternoon on Powder Mountain Road near Eden, causing minor damage.

Ogden Canyon reopens after Monday crash

OGDEN — Ogden Canyon reopened to regular traffic around 5 a.m. Tuesday.

The mouth of the canyon had been closed to everyone but canyon residents for most of the afternoon and night after a multiple-vehicle crash that knocked down a power line around 4 p.m. Monday, Weber County Sheriff’s Lt. Mark Lowther said.

Rocky Mountain Power worked through the night to replace the pole.

The crash occurred near the eastbound temporary traffic signal that protects an Ogden city culinary water project.

Cities will share cost of traffic study

FARR WEST — Council members approved a plan to share the costs with Pleasant View for a traffic study on 2700 North.

FrontRunner sets holiday schedule

OGDEN — The Utah Transit Authority will expand its FrontRunner service on New Year’s Eve, but the rail service will be closed on New Year’s Day.

Top of Utah slide-offs sure as the driven snow

Dispatchers along the Wasatch Front kept busy Wednesday as a snowstorm hit just in time for the commute.

Weber County dispatchers reported they had at least a dozen fender-benders or vehicles sliding off the road during the morning commute, with most of the accidents occurring on the auxiliary streets.

Dispatchers said there were a few more accidents as the day progressed, but no one was seriously injured.

County to help pay for south Davis transit study

FARMINGTON — Moving people more freely between Salt Lake and Davis counties through the use of public transit is a significant enough traffic concern that county officials are willing to help fund a south Davis County transit study.

The Davis County Commission recently agreed to put $7,500 toward the South Davis County Alternatives Analysis, a Utah Transit Authority study that will look at creating a regional public transit plan with Salt Lake City.

The county’s contribution to the study, to begin in 2013, is part of a collective pool of $60,000 to which local entities will contribute. The pool money will provide the matching funds necessary to qualify for an additional $360,000 grant from the Federal Transit Administration.

OGDEN — Law enforcement personnel were kept busy responding to a number of accidents on icy roads Saturday night in Weber and Davis counties.

Woman killed in accident identified

OGDEN — Police have identified a woman who was killed Saturday morning when her neighbor, who was backing out of a driveway, backed over her with her car.

Farmington letter firm on West Davis Corridor interchange option

FARMINGTON — As the Utah Department of Transportation presses forward with the environmental study for the West Davis Corridor, Farmington’s elected officials are taking a hard stance about which option they want.

The city recently sent UDOT a detailed letter, outlining their preference for the Shepard Lane interchange option.

The letter, dated Nov. 20, was signed by Mayor Scott Harbertson and all five city council members.

A mother and child were hit by a truck while walking in a crosswalk Monday afternoon in Ogden. Ogden police said the 23-year-old mother had the right of way as she pushed a stroller carrying her child, who is less than a year old, at 12:53 p.m. on the corner of 17th Street and Wall Avenue. The 32-year-old driver of a Chevrolet 1500 was turning left to go north onto Wall Avenue when he hit the woman and child. An ambulance transported the mother and child to McKay-Dee Hospital. The child may have been injured, and the mother had nonincapacitating injuries. Police said that whatever the extent of injuries, they did not appear to be life-threatening.
