UTA says crossing arms safe

LAYTON -- Utah Transit Authority officials say a crossing arm malfunction that would allow a car to travel unprotected through one of its FrontRunner crossings is not just highly unlikely, it's next to impossible.

SALT LAKE CITY -- After a recent string of accidents involving its rail operation, the Utah Transit Authority is looking at ways to improve safety and alert the public to the proper behavior around trains.

UTA to address train safety

SALT LAKE CITY -- The Utah Transit Authority will address recent safety incidents and announce new initiatives to increase safety awareness, two days after a woman in a mini-van was hit by a FrontRunner train at a rail-crossing in Kaysville.

UTA spokesman Gerry Carpenter said with recent UTA expansions, more motorists and pedestrians are interacting with trains than ever before.
