Committee to explore another Winter Olympics bid

SALT LAKE CITY -- Utah has the skills, the people and the know-how to host the Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games again, two Top of Utah lawmakers said Wednesday, the same day Gov. Gary Herbert and Salt Lake City Mayor Ralph Becker announced the formation of an exploratory committee to consider a bid for the 2022 or 2026 Winter Games.

Centerville council approves appointments

CENTERVILLE — New appointments are in place following approval by the city council.

The council approved newly sworn-in Councilman Larry Wright to serve as mayor pro tem for 2012.

The council also opted to have Councilman Justin Allen continue to serve as the COG Transportation representative for the city and for Mayor Ronald Russell to serve on the board for the art center.

Appointments were made at a city council meeting.

OGDEN -- Utah is famous as earthquake country, with the Wasatch Mountains serving as an obvious natural marker for the fault line that built them hundreds of millions of years ago.

The earthquake potential of western Oregon was a much better-kept secret until the past decade or two, said Scott F. Burns, a geology professor at Portland State University.

Adviser: Plan local funding, but federal money likely for Ogden streetcar

OGDEN -- The likelihood of securing federal funding remains one of the biggest issues in bringing a streetcar system to Ogden.

At a special work session held after Tuesday night's Ogden City Council meeting, an independent consultant hired by the city said while the federal funding landscape is unpredictable, the Ogden project would stack up well against other projects around the nation competing for the same funding.

Ogden council to hear streetcar input tonight

OGDEN -- The great Ogden streetcar debate is set to heat up again. The Ogden City Council will hold a special fact-finding work session tonight to discuss the viability of a streetcar project in the city.

7th Street in Ogden open to vehicle traffic

OGDEN -- A $2.7 million project to improve a two-block section of 7th Street is nearly complete. The only work left on the project, which extends about 1,500 feet between Adams and Liberty avenues, is the planting of landscaping and the completion of road striping.

Kaysville, Farmington disagree on corridor interchange but UDOT to consider regional impact

FARMINGTON -- While two neighboring cities continue to disagree on where a large interchange should be built for the West Davis Corridor, the Utah Department of Transportation is weighing the cost of each option.

MARRIOTT-SLATERVILLE -- The Utah Department of Transportation's red tape is hurting small businesses, one local businessman says.

UTA board adopts new budget for fiscal 2012

SALT LAKE CITY -- The Utah Transit Authority is ready for the new year.

UTA's final 2012 budget was adopted Wednesday by the agency's board at its regular monthly meeting. The agency predicts a jump of more than $13 million in its total revenue, going from $270.6 million in 2011 to $283.8 million in 2012.

Watch for icy road conditions

OGDEN — If commuters did not like the road conditions Wednesday, today will do little to brighten their spirits.

Icy conditions contributed to numerous traffic accidents throughout the Top of Utah on Wednesday.

Despite changes, UDOT to still plow ski resort roads

OGDEN -- The Utah Department of Transportation has changed its policy on plowing snow on roads leading to ski areas.

But don't worry, local resorts are still going to have clear roads.
