Rock slide closes road into Farmington Canyon

FARMINGTON -- A rock slide has closed the road into Farmington Canyon for at least the next two days, Davis County Sheriff's Sgt. Sue Poulsen said.

Poulsen said there were reports of slides in the area as early as Saturday. However, between 2 p.m. and 3 p.m. Sunday, rocks came down and blocked the road into the canyon about a mile from where the pavement ended.

The Farmington Canyon Road will be closed during cleanup and while U.S. Forest Service engineers check the area for stability.

Although the road to the canyon from Farmington is impassable, Poulsen said people can still easily enter the canyon through Bountiful.

Along with the Farmington Canyon Road, the U.S. Forest Service said Ward Canyon Road east of Bountiful is also still closed until deemed safe to use.
