True Blood

Charlaine Harris is author of the best-selling “Sookie Stackhouse” novels, the inspiration for the Emmy-winning HBO series “True Blood.”

Sookie creator the queen of the vampire novelists?

You could start a holy war by attempting to proclaim any one author the "queen" of vampire fiction. Yet whether they like their vampires cute and sparkly, suave and French or with a genteel Southern drawl, few fans of fangdom would contest that Charlaine Harris is on the shortlist of heiresses to the throne.

Harris is author of the hugely successful "Sookie Stackhouse" novels, the most recent of which, "Dead Reckoning," made its debut at No. 1 on the New York Times best-seller list. The series is also the inspiration for the Emmy-winning HBO series "True Blood."

'Glee Project' winner picked; snakes take over man's bedrooom

Don't miss

"The Glee Project" -- They came, they cried, they sang their little hearts out. But only one of them can capture the glitzy grand prize: A guest-starring role on "Glee." In the season finale, the remaining four contestants in this addictive reality series -- Alex, Samuel, Lindsay and Damian -- take to the stage one more time, hoping to impress the judges and "Glee" boss Ryan Murphy. We have no idea how it will all go down, but one thing is certain: It will be more interesting than "Glee: The 3D Concert Movie." 7 p.m. today, Oxygen.

'True Blood' stars get sexy, edgy in real life

BEVERLY HILLS, Calif. -- We've heard of actors who really get into their roles, but this is ridiculous. When "True Blood" stars -- and real-life spouses -- Anna Paquin and Stephen Moyer were asked what they enjoy doing together in their free time, things got a little edgy.

Best bets

* Isn't it neat that "True Blood" continues to be oh so suspenseful? You just never know when the characters are going to confront danger -- or rip their clothes off. 10 p.m. today, HBO.

Bite has lost some of its sting in Sookie Stackhouse's world

"DEAD RECKONING: A SOOKIE STACKHOUSE NOVEL." By Charlaine Harris. $27.95.

God knows it's not easy being Sookie Stackhouse. The telepathic barmaid at the center of so many supernatural occurrences in the sleepy burg of Bon Temps, La., seems to spend most of her time fending off murderous attackers or the romantic advances of vampires, werewolves, shape-shifters and the like.

Swedish actor Alexander Skarsgard plays the aloof, sexy Viking vampire sheriff and bar owner on HBO’s “True Blood.”

'True Blood' sheriff takes a bite out crime

LOS ANGELES -- Playing an aloof, sexy Viking vampire sheriff on HBO's "True Blood" requires many things of Swedish actor Alexander Skarsgard, not least among them a willingness to endure long stretches of night shoots and a commitment to spend at least a certain amount of time in the gym. Anyone who's watched the show, which returns for its fourth season Sunday, knows that virtually every major character is afforded plenty of screen time wearing not much at all.
