Wildlife crossing structures save lives, hides

LOGAN -- If Utah drivers take the high road and wildlife takes the low "road," everyone gets home safely.

Patty Cramer helps design underpasses and overpasses that help prevent collisions between drivers just passing through and the moose, elk, mule deer and smaller animals moving around in their home habitat.

The Utah State University wildland resource research assistant professor determines where underpasses or overpasses are needed based on past collisions and her surveillance footage.

Clinton seeking funds for road job

FEMA funding likely for Davis wind damage

FARMINGTON -- It appears Davis County entities will receive federal aid from the Federal Emergency Management Agency because of the damage from the Dec. 1 hurricane-force winds that tore through the area.

Judge asked to sign final order in highway cross dispute

SALT LAKE CITY -- Final settlement papers in a lawsuit over 14 roadside crosses honoring Utah troopers killed in the line of duty have been submitted to the courts and are awaiting the approval of a federal judge, court records show.

SALT LAKE CITY -- Groups representing Utah state troopers and atheists have reached a final settlement in a lawsuit over 14 roadside crosses honoring troopers killed in the line of duty.

Under the agreement submitted Friday to U.S. District Court Judge David Sam of Salt Lake City, the Utah Highway Patrol Association must remove 10 of the white, 12-foot-tall crosses from public land by Feb. 26 and move them to private property.

Utah sees continued decline in traffic fatalities

SALT LAKE CITY -- Traffic fatalities in Utah haven't been this low in nearly four decades, but transportation officials still aren't satisfied.

Utah Department of Transportation and Utah Highway Patrol released yearly traffic fatality statistics Thursday; 233 people died on state roads during 2011, a 20 percent drop since 2006.

In 2010, the state had 235 traffic fatalities.
