4 Unabomber victims will get $225,000 in auction proceeds

SACRAMENTO -- Checks totaling more than $225,000 raised from an auction of items belonging to the Unabomber, Theodore Kaczynski, will be distributed among four of the serial bomber's victims, a federal judge has ordered.

U.S. District Judge Garland E. Burrell ordered the disbursement of $225,735.56 in a document filed last Tuesday in Sacramento, Calif.

The Chicago FBI confirmed Thursday, May 19, 2011, that the agency has asked for the DNA from Unabomber Ted Kaczynski in an investigation to see if he may have been involved in the 1982 Tylenol poisonings that killed seven people in the Chicago area. 'Unabomber' says he's suspect in '82 Tylenol deaths

Theodore Kaczynski's worldly possessions went on sale Wednesday, with iconic items like his handwritten manifesto and his hoodie and sunglasses drawing immediate interest from online bidders.

But even as the federal government used the sale to raise money for victims of the Unabomber, new signs emerged that Kaczynski is under investigation in another series of crimes: the infamous 1982 Tylenol poisonings that killed seven people.

US to auction Unabomber's personal effects online

CHICAGO -- Personal effects of Ted Kaczynski, better known as the Unabomber, will be auctioned off online later this month with the proceeds going to his victims, the U.S. Marshals Service said Thursday.

Kaczynski was behind a mail bombing spree that spanned nearly 20 years until his arrest in 1996, killing three people and injuring 23 others. The bombings, he said, were designed to attract attention to the erosion of human freedom brought on by modern technology.
