Religion leaders see immigration as 'God's call'

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. -- A Unitarian church in New Mexico sends supplies to the border for recent deportees. A coalition of church leaders gathers under a statue of colonial America religious figure Anne Hutchinson at the Massachusetts Statehouse to denounce immigration checks by police. A Methodist minister in Texas recites Isaiah 58:6, a passage about loosening the bonds of injustice, as she's thrown in jail after protesting alongside illegal immigrant students outside a U.S. senator's office.

Free flu shots Saturday for kids

OGDEN -- Free flu shots will be offered for children from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at the Unitarian Universalist Church of Ogden, 705 E. 23rd St.

Public invited to free film screening

OGDEN — The public is invited to view an award-winning documentary, “The Oath,” about two men who were involved with al-Qaeda, at 7 p.m. Thursday at Peery’s Egyptian Theater, 2415 Washington Blvd.

The free showing is co-sponsored by the ACLU of Utah, Egyptian Theater, and the Unitarian Universalist Church of Ogden.

A review of the film states, “From the director of the Oscar-nominated ‘My Country, My Country,’ ‘The Oath’ is a spectacularly gripping documentary that unspools like a great political thriller.

If the rest of the world did its job half as well as Gary Horenkamp, the federal budget would be balanced, your newspaper would never land in a puddle and all haircuts would be excellent.

Because Gary does his job well, people are alive who would not be. Young people.

Unitarian Universalists hold conference in Ogden

OGDEN -- Unitarian Universalist Church members throughout Utah, Colorado, New Mexico, Idaho, Montana and Wyoming converged on Ogden last weekend for the 2010 Mountain Desert District Conference.
