QB Johnson reinstated at Montana

 

MISSOULA, Mont. — Quarterback Jordan Johnson has been reinstated to the Montana football team after his acquittal on a rape charge.

Johnson was dismissed from the team under the UM student-athlete code of conduct after being charged last July with sexual intercourse without consent. He was acquitted Friday by a jury that deliberated for about two hours.

Johnson rape trial: Ex-Montana AD’s son testifies

MISSOULA, Mont. — Jurors in the Missoula rape trial of Jordan Johnson heard testimony Friday from Brian O’Day, a friend of the alleged victim and son of former University of Montana athletic director Jim O’Day.

O’Day testified the woman gave him a ride home from a bar after the alleged incident in February 2012. During the ride and afterward, O’Day said, she told him what had happened in her apartment with Jordan.

O’Day said she appeared pale, The Missoulian reported Friday.

Ex-congressman defends saying University of Montana recruited ‘thugs’

MISSOULA, Mont. — Former U.S. Rep. Pat Williams has defended and repeated his contention that the University of Montana is recruiting “thugs” for its football team.

The Democrat, who is now a member of the Board of Regents that oversees the Montana university system, first made his comments in a New York Times story on Thursday.

Former Montana QB’s rape trial to begin

HELENA, Mont. — Just weeks after a University of Montana student claimed she was raped by the quarterback of the football team, the coach enthusiastically welcomed him back to spring drills and lauded his “character and tremendous moral fiber.”

The woman’s lawyer, Josh Van de Wetering, quickly complained to the athletic department that the comment left his client “less than confident in the university’s commitment to protect her.”
