WOODS CROSS — Any notion that the Republican Party has been in power so long in Davis County that the results of elections are almost scripted, was turned on its ear Friday night in the party’s nominating convention.

Be prepared. While this motto works for Scouts, the law enforces preparedness by requiring classes and education that must take place in order to access various legal remedies and privileges.

House Bill 363, which is awaiting Gov. Gary Herbert’s signature (or veto), would prohibit local school boards from educating our students on the full spectrum of reproductive health, harshly limiting the discussion of sex to abstinence and within marriage. (Note: Herbert vetoed the sex ed bill late Friday night, after this column was written and posted.)

SALT LAKE CITY — A local lawmaker behind the initiative to make gold and silver coins legal tender in Utah said he is not trying to move the state back to a gold standard.

Todd Reese Taylor, born July 23, 1965, in Bountiful, died in his sleep Tuesday, March 6, 2012. A viewing will be held from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday, March 11, at Larkin Mortuary, 260 E. South Temple, Salt Lake City. A memorial will be held Monday, March 12, at the Rose Wagner Performing Arts Center, 138 W. Broadway (300 South), in Salt Lake City. The family will receive friends from 11:45 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. Monday at the center. The service will begin at 1 p.m. and will be followed by internment at the Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park, 3401 S. Highland Drive, Salt Lake City. An open house celebrating Todd’s life will be held from 2:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday for friends and family at the Utah Democratic Party Headquarters, 825 N. 300 West, Salt Lake City. The family suggests donations to a perpetual scholarship, named the “Todd Taylor Intern Scholarship Fund,” created by the Democratic Party. These scholarships can be used at any of the state’s colleges or universities.
