SALT LAKE CITY -- A housing rally brought a Davis County mom and her blow-up doll to the state Capitol on Tuesday.
Colette Hadlock, of Layton, joined with others to advocate for two bills they say would help people who live in manufactured housing, sometimes called mobile or trailer homes.
"I came to rally for homeowner rights," said Hadlock.
The blow-up doll that Hadlock brought to the Capitol building was dressed up to represent the other Utah homeowners she says do not have a voice in the communities where they live.
The two pieces of legislation are sponsored by Salt Lake County representatives. Advocates say one bill would strengthen the residents' ability to create a homeowners association that can advocate for positions of common interest. The other allows residents to appeal excessive rent increases to an arbitrator.
Hadlock said she went through bankruptcy and other problems before landing in the manufactured housing she owns.
"I struggled to live in this type of home," said Hadlock.
The mother of three said it would be overly expensive to move her home if she has trouble with a park owner.
