SALT LAKE CITY -- The Utah Legislature is delaying the implementation of a controversial open records law that makes most electronic communication by government officials private, and significantly increases fees.
The House Republican caucus agreed Monday to reconsider House Bill 477, and make the law effective July 1.
Republican House Majority Leader Brad Dee of Washington Terrace says the delay will give legislators, state lawyers, media organizations and advocacy groups time to work on changes.
Gov. Gary Herbert met with House Republicans Monday but refused to comment after the meeting.
Republican Sen. Chris Buttars of West Jordan made the amendment on Monday.
He's the only Republican in either chamber to vote against the bill last week.
